– PROLOGUE –
The Frida Kahlo School in Schweich is an inclusive school in which students with and without disabilities are taught and encouraged to interact with one another in a carefree manner and to learn with joy.
The three-part work canon MIRROR, MIRROR… in the foyer, CANON OF COLORS in the cafeteria and COLORFUL VIEW in the outdoor area create a meaningful connection between these three locations. They appeal to the senses with simple and familiar means. The development of ideas has its origins in the work of the artist Frida Kahlo and at the same time abstracts it: strong colors and self-portraits – here in the form of mirror images – come from her works and motifs; they encourage perception and self-observation – also in the group.

COLOR CANON
The canteen’s wall paneling made of fiber cement panels is largely replaced by colored glass panels. The choice of colors is based on the COLOR CANON from Frida Kahlo’s diary. The bright colors with a reflective, shiny glass surface contrast excitingly with the matte, gray-blue fiber cement panels.
